The Chueca district, bounded by the street of Barquillo Hortaleza, Gran Vía and Calle Fernando VI, is one of the most genuine and cosmopolitan of the city center. During the 80s it was one of the most vibrant districts and in recent years it has also become one of the gay districts of Madrid. With many bars and clubs it has a very active life during the day mainly focused on small businesses and is one of the most spectacular places for nightlife. Chueca is known, for this special character, as the Soho of Madrid.
